Bridge Seminar Introduction

Appendix 1 lists subjects. Some may require several meetings, and some may be combined in a single meeting. I want interaction with the audience. I welcome you briefly presenting a different treatment. Please suggest additional topics. You also can influence topic order.

These seminars are for players who are working on their bridge. There is no attempt to force either a system or ideas on you. We have to assume a system and it is: Five-card majors, 15-17 notrump, and 2/1 game force.

Evening's Plans

  1. Discussion. About 1 hour. In the past, there was a handout we read and then discussed. This time, I will try presentations at lajollabridge.com/Bailey/topics/intro.htm (orginally http://members.cox.net/4evanb). I hope you will look at the evening's topic before the meeting.

    Web site sections:

    • Current Seminar notes. This section will grow with time.
    • Our Big Club System. A few chapters are relevant.
    • I may decide to post bid 'em ups.
  2. We will play deals illustrating themes. The deals are produced randomly, and may or may not demonstrate that our ideas are good. The first meeting is on overcalls. John and I overcall very light. First seat gets an opening bid, and second seat gets an overcall which may satisfy just our conditions, or everybody conditions. First seat must open and we take it from there, and you get to practice your overcall style or our overcall style.

Emphasis will be on competitive bidding and defense. However, we must establish a common language. Big Club Chapter 2 is on point count. Some writeups of new material are brief, and the group will expand on the topic.

There is a logical order for presentations. Starting point should be the Point Count chapter. This is delayed for one or two meetings on the theory the group will increase in size as more people join.
